In February of 2011, Statistics Canada released a report revealing food prices increased 2.1% in the 12 months to February and food purchased from stores increased 2.0%. Due to increased competition, credit card companies are now offering Canadian consumers more perks to get their business. Credit card issuers are modifying their reward programs more often than before to create more attractive promotions and benefits. Canadians have responded positively to these programs with an estimated 86% reporting they are members of a loyalty program.
